Election Coverage

On this edition of the program the hosts take a look, not at the national Presidential elections, but at the biblical doctrine of election, and the lack of coverage that this crucial component to the idea of salvation by grace alone receives in Christian circles today. The White Horse Inn: "know what you believe and why you believe it."

Not What My Hands Have Done

1. Not what my hands have done
Can save my guilty soul;
Not what my toiling flesh has borne
Can make my spirit whole.
Not what I feel or do
Can give me peace with God;
Not all my prayers,
And sighs and tears
Can bear my awful load.

2. Thy work alone, O Christ,
Can ease this weight of sin
Thy blood alone O Lamb of God,
Can give me peace within.
Thy love to me O God,
Not mine, O Lord, to Thee
Can rid me of
This dark unrest,
And set my spirit free!

3. Thy grace alone, O God,
To me can pardon speak;
Thy power alone O Son of God,
Can this sore bondage break.
No other work, save Thine,
No other blood will do,
No strength save that,
Which is divine,
Can bear me safely through.

4. I bless the Christ of God;
I rest on love divine;
And with unfaltering lip and heart,
I call this Savior mine.
His cross dispels each doubt,
I bury in His tomb
My unbelief,
And all my fear,
Each lingering shade of gloom.

5. I praise the God of grace,
I trust His truth and might
He calls me His, I call Him mine,
My God, my joy, my light
’Tis He Who saveth me,
And freely pardon gives
I love because
He loveth me,
I live because He lives!

Psa 30:1-12

(1) A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple. I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
(2) O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.
(3) O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
(4) Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.
(5) For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
(6) As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved."
(7) By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.
(8) To you, O LORD, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
(9) "What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?
(10) Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me! O LORD, be my helper!"
(11) You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
(12) that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
