Whose will

Whose will is valid, solid and deciding? Yours? Mine? Some authority's?
Maybe... the spur of the moment, when you think you are the king of the world? Maybe such moment shall decide?

Do you remember this soppy and very romantic scene from "Titanic", when Leo DiCaprio and his lady are swaying over the ocean, into the sunset, very much in love, feeling like the kings of the world? He even says those exact words. Only to realize some hours later that this was his last sunset, and that the self-proclaimed kings cannot fight against the powerful claws of death...

We dream, we plan, we pursue our own happiness, chasing, longing, taking things for granted...

Christmas Day, evening. A mother goes to work - she is a nurse, she is only 42. Her daughter is one of my students, her son is only 14. She collapses at her desk, and after 5 minutes is declared dead.
She did not plan this to happen...
This death left her family in the state of shock, the grief is overwhelming, what can you say to this student of mine, a girl of 19? Well, there are many nice things they say, all those 'psycho-logs', student aids, support groups... Not a word about God. Not a word about the real hope, not a word of real consolation. Only some kind pieces of advice and some shy and gentle questions concerning what the girl would like to do now in the realm of her studies, and how she would preferred to be treated by us, teachers.
Will. Whose will? Why? Questions about justice, morality, sense of life - they come as temptations, and if we do not know the Word of Truth, we might fall for them. The death of a close relative is a perfect occasion for the Enemy to prey on.

Can a broken vessel make any decisions? Are those going to be good? Time after time the history of humankind tells us that our best efforts explode in our faces. They work for some time, but they always backfire. Sooner or later. Environment, politics, educational systems, wars, revolutions, trends in child upbringing, man-made religion... Only the will of God is trustworthy, only His decrees work for good. When will people understand it?
Yes, Gospel is offensive, and it is precisely why we should tell others about it without the cotton feelings for the supposed insulted feelings. Those who are meant to listen, shall listen. He wills it that way. He, God. Because He is God.
I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time--he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
(1Ti 6:13-16)

There is such peace in knowing that God is in control. I can trust the best of men, but none will ever compare with Christ.

There was, there is and there always be only ONE King of the Universe. Our Father, Abba who is in heaven.
Everybody else and everything else answers to Him alone.
