Authorities, or who do you listen to

We have them, all of us, the people that have influenced our lives throughout the years. I have been a real sucker for authorities, always trying to find some common ground of thought and objectives, applicable guidelines and pointers. I cannot even remember how many there were...

You start with your parents, and this relationship sets an imprint upon your whole existence, for good or for bad. You cannot avoid it, no matter how much you would like to deny it sometimes. Somewhere along the way you discover a stranger who excites your intellect or your emotions, who in some way is soooooo terribly innovative (that's what you believe then), and there are many such strangers. One after another, some of them teachers, some of them friends, some of them celebrities.

Yeah, the last sort I find especially captivating. Or - have found. But the point is - you are never completely satisfied, content, happy, whatever. There is always something missing, you always get bored, you always move on to another icon. Until --

Christ comes into your life and gives you no choice, really.
Have you ever thought about the meaning of these words?

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
(Joh 8:32)
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
(Joh
8:36)
